When people are battling a substance abuse disorder, they need professional help so that they can learn how to live a sober life and recover from the damage done to personal relationships as well as their general well-being. This is where a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS) can help.

A Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist can provide the guidance that is necessary to help people deal with stress and avoid triggers that can lead to relapse. Their guidance can play a pivotal role in how well a person maintains sobriety with their addiction.

What is a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist?

A Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist meets with patients to assess their individual needs when it comes to coping with a substance abuse disorder. Since each person’s addiction and circumstances are different, the LCAS sits down with each patient to learn about their specific situation to develop a treatment plan. They also treat mental health concerns related to substance abuse. Clinical Addiction Specialists are licensed by the North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board.

A Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist Can Help with:

The work of a licensed clinical addiction specialist centers around twelve core functions. These are:

  1. Screening
  2. Intake
  3. Orientation
  4. Assessment
  5. Treatment planning
  6. Counseling
  7. Case management
  8. Crisis intervention
  9. Client education
  10. Report and record-keeping
  11. Consultation regarding treatment with other professionals
  12. Referrals

It’s important to note that the LCAS does not conduct treatment counseling when a patient only has a mental health diagnosis unless they have a dual license to address mental health concerns.
